This is my original GillyBee Absolute Beginners dressmaking course which has been running since January 2015. It is very popular with all ages, and everyone can’t wait for the next week when they are on the course. To see everyone’s faces when they put in a zip and begin to see the end result is always a pleasure. I absolutely love teaching this course. This adult’s dressmaking course is perfect for beginners, refreshers who haven’t sewn since school(!) and improvers new to dressmaking. The course teaches you so many different elements and skills to start you on your dressmaking journey and they can be transferred to crafting too. The maximum number of people on this course will be six so you can be assured of receiving lots of tips and help throughout.
What will I learn?
In the first week you will learn to thread up the machine, fill and insert the bobbin and you will make a small project to get used to the machine. You will also receive tips on how to choose fabric for your project. Over the course of the remaining four weeks you will make a panel skirt in your choice of length, following a commercial pattern and learning dressmaking terminology. You will learn to sew seams, insert a zip, apply interfacing to a faced waistband, attach the waistband and sew a curved hem. You will also overlock seams and learn how to use an overlocker/serger.
The course takes place in the GillyBee Sewing Room at my shop at 2 Cucumber Lane, Brundall NR13 5QY in a purpose built sewing room. We are a stone’s throw from the Postwick Hub and a few hundred yards from the Brundall roundabout on the A47. We have free parking next to the shop.
Cost of the course
The full cost of my Absolute Beginners Sewing Course is £85. Pay £45 deposit now with the balance payable 2-3 weeks before the course commences. A PayPal invoice will be sent to you approximately 3-4 weeks prior to commencement of the course for the balance or you can pay the balance in the shop.
